Description: The John E. Rees Collection contains correspondence to Rees seeking his expertise concerning names of people or places in Idaho. Most of the items are copies of research materials collected and/or written by Rees. Included are unpublished interpretations of Indian pictographs, a dictionary of the Shoshone language, Shoshone legends, and reminiscences of Murdock F. McPherson, pioneer miner and merchant. An account ledger from the Office of the Alturas County Treasurer/Auditor, 1835-1885 rounds out the collection.
